Air Force downed Navy 46-14 in the 2005 Armed Forces Championships held at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina 19-21 October.

In the championship game, Air Force overcame fourteen first half points by Navy's Ben Oakes on tries by Matt Clugston (Osan), Mike Hobson (Nellis) and Brian Lemay (Hanscom) to lead 15-14 at the half.

The second half saw Air Force pull away as team captain Dr. Andy McQuade (Brooks), Wayne Kinsel (Alconbury), Chris Hauck (Keesler) scored along with Hobson and Clugston adding their second try each. David Pina took over the kicking duties and slotted two conversions.

The services teams, featuring American military ruggers of all ranks from around the world, meet annually to crown a champion. Service teams meet in a five-team round robin format which sends the top two finishers to the final. Air Force lost the opening match of the tournament to the Marine Corps to end with a 4-1 record. Navy finished at 3-2.

The Marines beat Army in the consolation championship, 32-7.  Coast Guard finished 0-3-1, losing two games in the final minute.

Four Air Force players were named to the all-tournament squad:  Capt Doug Sterritt (Little Rock AFB), Lt Mike Hobson (Nellis), Lt David Pina (Robbins AFB) and Lt Brad Banga (Spangdahlem)

The team is coached by LtCol Ken Holliday, Capt Jay Gregson and CMSgt Craun Fansler.
